In-School Programming

2023-24 Program Offerings

Keys to Read

Keys to Read provides hands-on musical experiences and literacy education to middle school students, free of charge. This program is held for 4 days, one period per day OR one per week for 4 weeks. Students choose a work of literature and write a song inspired by their chosen narrative using keyboards provided by Piano Cleveland. This program draws on ELA concepts such as tone, literary devices, and writing composition while introducing the musical elements of the keyboard and songwriting.

Musical Storytelling

Piano Cleveland is excited to offer another iteration of PianoKids Stories, a musical storytelling program geared toward elementary students in grades K-5. In this 40-minute program, students will engage with local professional pianist Joe Leaman to clap, sing, and dance along as they embark on a musical journey guided by a narrator reading a popular children’s book. This program is offered at no cost to schools.

Piano ReACTIONs

What does piano music sound like, look like, and feel like? Geared toward upper elementary and middle school students, Piano ReACTIONs builds critical listening skills by exposing students to piano music of the highest artistry and encouraging them to interpret the music in their own ways. Throughout the lesson, students are led through activities to express their reactions to piano music through writing, drawing and dancing. This 45-minute lesson is offered at no cost to schools, libraries and community centers serving local youth and families.
