Featured CIPC Medalists
Cleveland native Arianna Körting (2012 CIPC for Young Artists 1st Prize Winner) is currently studying at The Juilliard School with Jerome Lowenthal and Hung-Kuan Chen. She has been featured on NPR’s From the Top, performed the National Anthem for the Cleveland Indians Opening Day, and has also performed in Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall in NYC, and at the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival.
Russian pianist Konstantin Soukhovetski (2003 CIPC 3rd Prize Medalist) is an Artist-in-Residence at Pianofest in the Hamptons and an avid performer in the New York area. He is rapidly earning a reputation as a “young pianist who captivates” with his “distinctive lyricism,” “immaculate technique,” and “vigor…refinement… and drama” (The New York Times). Mr. Soukhovetski has performed in such notable venues as Wigmore Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Phillips Collection, and many more.
Hailing from China, Jiayan Sun (2013 CIPC 4th Prize Medalist and Audience Prize Winner) received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Yoheved Kaplinsky and Stephen Hough. He has been praised by the Toronto Star for his “technically flawless, poetically inspired and immensely assured playing.” Mr. Sun is currently the Iva Dee Hiatt Visiting Artist in Piano at Smith College.
Master of Ceremonies
Zsolt Bognár will join the Encore! gala as Master of Ceremonies for the evening, interviewing the medalists and providing commentary. Mr. Bognár is an award-winning pianist, writer, and Ted Talk presenter. European critics characterize his playing as “overwhelmingly visceral” and “of crystalline precision.” His diverse projects have earned him an Arthur Loesser Prize and a Harvard Musical Association award. After studying at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Sergei Babayan, Bognár made his German debut in 2012 at Konzerthaus Berlin in a sold-out performance. The following year marked his recording debut, Franz & Franz, and his receipt of an International Festival Society Grant, which funded projects in Lugano with Martha Argerich and Sergei Babayan and studies with the Wilhelm Kempff Foundation in Italy. Mr. Bognár appears regularly with members of the Cleveland Orchestra and on National Public Radio both as a commentator and performer.
